In plain language
Many of the product links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may receive a small commission from the retailer. You pay exactly the same price. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not out of your pocket, and it does not affect your price, your warranty, your return rights or your customer service.
This is how the site is funded. Our calculators and charts are free, carry no paywall and require no account, and affiliate commissions plus display advertising are what pay for research, hosting and maintenance.
Which links are affiliate links
Assume that any link to a retailer is an affiliate link. That covers product names, product images, price figures and buy buttons in our gear guides, and any Amazon link inside a calculator page, guide or chart.
Links that are not affiliate links include links to manufacturer specification pages, standards bodies, state wildlife agencies, and other pages on this site. We do not earn from those, and we link to them because they are the source.
Some products we recommend cannot be bought online at all. Most flagship compound bows are sold exclusively through authorised dealers, which means we earn nothing whatsoever when we recommend one. We still cover them, because leaving out the right answer to make a page more profitable would defeat the purpose of the site.
How commissions do not change our picks
This is the part that matters, so here is the mechanism rather than a promise.
Our gear guides are structured in beginner, intermediate and expert tiers, and every guide is required to state who should not buy the expert tier. A commission scales with price, so if money drove our picks we would push everyone to the top tier. We routinely do the opposite, because a beginner buying a $600 rangefinder they cannot use is a reader we have failed and lost.
Products are selected before any link is built. Selection is based on published manufacturer specifications, verified owner reviews and pro shop guidance. No brand pays us for placement, no brand sees a page before it publishes, and no brand can request a change to a verdict. If the correct answer for a category is a $40 product, that is what we say.
What we do not claim
We do not test gear in person. We do not run a chronograph lab or a test range, and we will never write "we tested" or "in our hands-on testing" about equipment we have not used. Our method is research: comparing published specifications, cross-checking them against verified owner reviews and pro shop guidance, and flagging where two spec sheets are quietly measuring different things. We would rather be trusted than sound impressive.
Prices and availability
Prices shown on this site are indicative, gathered when the page was written or last updated. Retail archery pricing moves constantly. Always confirm the current price, specification and availability on the retailer's own listing before you buy. We are not responsible for pricing errors, discontinued products or listings that change after publication.
Other programs and partnerships
Beyond the Amazon Associates Program we may participate in other affiliate programs, and we may run display advertising. If we ever publish sponsored content or accept a paid placement, it will be labelled clearly and unmistakably on the page itself. Undisclosed sponsorship will never appear on this site.
Why we tell you all this
Disclosing material connections is required by the United States Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements and testimonials, and this page exists to comply with it. It is also simply the right way to run a reference site. You should know how a publisher makes money before you weigh its recommendations.
